Circular hiking trail No. 3 from Brakel via Istrup, Schmechten, Riesel back to Brakel.

The circular hiking trail No. 3 starts in Brakel at Bredenplatz. You cross Bredenweg and enter the historic city center through the city wall.

From the church square of St. Michael's Parish Church, you walk along Thystraße. In the Middle Ages, the castle of the Lords of Brakel stood at Thyplatz. The square in front of the castle, called "Thy," was historically the first central square and served as a "Thing," i.e. as a place for the judicial assembly in the city's court. Walking along Feuerteich, you leave the city.

The path now gently leads you downhill into the Aa valley to Istrup. From the Homecomers' Chapel on the outskirts of Istrup, you have a magnificent view of the village. The hiking mushroom on the way to Schmechten invites you to take a break before continuing to Schmechten.

On the way to Riesel, you pass the "Rieseler Chapel," offering a surprising view of the vast Brakel basin and its surrounding heights. You walk through Riesel back to Brakel.
