Truly, the mountains and hills south of Brilon inspire the imagination. When walking along the narrow rock ridge of the Ginsterköpfe, where gnarled trees creak and high grass bends in the wind, wild lupines and foxgloves display an unrealistically beautiful array of colors, one easily believes in mystical and supernatural things - like the Brilon symbol, the Brilon forest fairy.
The Brilon Kammweg, like the Rothaarsteig, begins at the marketplace in Brilon. Beautiful half-timbered houses in the Westphalian style, the town hall with its baroque facade, and the gothic tower of the Provost Church of St. Peter and Andreas form the backdrop for the first kilometers leading out of the city.
Then you experience the deep spruce and beech forests and fantastic views into the vastness of the Sauerland, such as on the Borberg.
On the wide clearing amidst lonely beech forests, the early medieval ring wall, the ruins of the former church, and the chapel on the edge of the rock plateau create a strangely intriguing ensemble. From the small forecourt of the Borberg Chapel from 1925, there is a beautiful view down into the Ruhr Valley and towards Olsberg, or a detour leads to the nearby Bruchhauser Steine, four massive porphyry rocks up to 90 meters high.
Highlights include the Ginsterköpfe and the Hohe Eimberg.
