Seven Mountains - Around the Great Oelberg

As a starting point, we choose the parking lot at Lahrring near the Lohrberg forest house and take the forest path to Ittenbach as the starting point for the hike around the Großer Oelberg. After a surprisingly pleasant and secluded stretch of path down to Ittenbach to the busy L 331, which we quickly cross, we walk down towards Döttscheid on a newly constructed pedestrian path and hardly notice the strong development and through traffic in Ittenbach. At the end of the pedestrian path, we turn left into the village of Döttscheid, cross it uphill and reach the Stöckerhof forest house with its former forest educational trail. Via the steep forest path, we reach the Buchenplatz, which displays the rocks of the Siebengebirge and continues to the trail intersection below the Kleiner Oelberg. At a small square stands a wayside cross and the explanation of the forest educational trail as well as various waystones for trail explanation. We take the northern route towards Thomasberg, cross the Jungfernbüsch, to turn towards Rosenau at the tennis courts of the former Gut Buschhof. Here we are greeted by lush meadows with orchards and wide views of the Siegtal and up to the Großer Oelberg. Especially in autumn, the deciduous forest stands out brightly. We climb towards the waterfall, which we reach on a narrow forest path. Unfortunately, the view of the Drachenfels can only be guessed at, only in winter is the ruin visible. But the view to the Oelbergrestaurant is clear and we take the main hiking trail to Margarethenhöhe to return to our starting point.
