Gehrdener Circular Trail

It goes directly up to the Katharienberg. You walk through a beautiful avenue of old venerable lime and chestnut trees. The path, also serving as a Stations of the Cross, leads up to the chapel there and plays an important role in Gehrden, especially during Easter weekend. A pergola leads through a species-rich hedge to an orchard. This is grazed by cattle, and on a short section, there is an alpine feeling.
The fruit trees, maintained voluntarily by the villagers, also line the further path. Community actions take place in spring for pruning and in autumn for harvesting.
The areas in the north of Gehrden, formerly used as pasture woodland, are characterized by centuries-old imposing oaks standing at large intervals on meadows and fields. The hiking trail runs between them, and young trees have already been replanted to preserve the landscape's character.
Then it goes back down to the town center, through which the Öse flows. Just before the village, it splits into the natural stream and a small mill canal. Information boards about fish populations line the path, which leads idyllically directly along the mill canal.
Before the end of the tour, special highlights await the hikers. In a green area stands the magnificent monastery church from the 12th century with a magnificent interior. Right next to it is Schloss Gehrden, a former monastery building now used as a hotel and restaurant. In the nearby castle park, there are 2 trees of national importance, the 12-Apostle lime and a mighty sycamore.
