You experience monuments and buildings that bear witness to the fight against the Elbe River floods, see relics that date from the Middle Ages to the present day. The High Drawehn and the landscape of the last ice age form the impressive backdrop.
The special fun: Combine the circular path with the digital scavenger hunt from Actionbound for young and old!
In Hitzacker, you can deepen your knowledge of floods at the Archaeological Center open-air museum. Here you playfully learn about the lives of the first settlers in the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Next door, at the Old Customs House Museum, everything revolves around life on and with the Elbe and Jeetzel rivers. Particularly exciting are the water interactive experiments in the museum courtyard.
In Dannenberg, people used to navigate the extensively branched Jeetzel river with boats. But here too, there were regular floods. The museum in the Waldemarturm is located on a hill in a former defensive tower of the old castle complex. A permanent exhibition conveys the history of the city.
