Description by the author

Where water finds city - from Niederfinow to Eberswalde: Water, forest, and industrial culture come into full view on the final stage of this beautiful tour. The circular route "Around the Schorfheide", with a total length of 135 km and divided into 7 stages, is a real experience. It reflects the region and connects many sights, historical and interesting facts about the Barnim region. With the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, the Schorfheide, the district town of Eberswalde, the Barnim Nature Park, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Buchenwald Grumsin, it shows some facets and beauties during the hike in the Barnim region.

Length: 17 km

Walking time: approx. 4 hours

Start / Finish: Niederfinow station to Eberswalde main station

Marker / Logo: Blue Tree

Arrival: Niederfinow with RB 60, Eberswalde with RE 3 and RB 24 from Berlin - continue with BBG line 916, by car via the A 10/A11 motorway

Route description: In Niederfinow, we start at the station, with the old drawbridge over the historic Finow Canal in sight on the left, where barges used to be towed with muscle power and real horse power. Today we are more likely to meet relaxed canoeists there - maybe something for our next tour.
The tour leads us along Karlswerk through the historic village center of Hohenfinow. A detour to the ostrich farm with farm shop and to the viewpoint at Liebenstein is definitely highly recommended before our day's destination and final destination Eberswalde awaits us further west.
In the last kilometers through the green forests of the Barnim Nature Park, we review the stages mastered and 135 kilometers and happily reach the city limits of Eberswalde, where we feel the pulse of the city again for the first time in five days.
Our hiking trail passes directly by the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde, where a short detour to the city promenade on the old Finow Canal is worthwhile - and who knows: maybe we will meet the same paddlers as at the starting point of the stage in Niederfinow.

Sights and interesting facts: Niederfinow, Finow Canal, Hohenfinow with historic village center, ostrich farm, Emperor Oak & viewpoint at Liebenstein, Eberswalde with the city center, the University for Sustainable Development,

Path conditions: Cobbles, asphalt, forest paths
