The tour starts in Bad Bevensen and leads via Gr. Hesebeck to Oetzendorf. Nature lovers are recommended to take a detour to the ponds located to the south. There you will find a habitat for the Alpine newt and nesting grounds for cranes. Oetzendorf itself is a circular village - the famous village form from the Wendland region. In the next village, Höver, there is a church first mentioned in 1311. The church, as it can be seen today, was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century.
After that, you continue cycling to Almstorf. The orchard meadow and the Nabu habitat at the entrance of the village offer beautiful photo opportunities. Just two kilometers further is Himbergen with its church from 1843 with a 34m high tower. Open upon request, Tel. 05807-1637. Additionally, the private local history museum is shown upon request in the former water tower, Tel. 05828-206.
Next stop is Gr. Thondorf and through the Wiebecker forest, a dense deciduous and coniferous forest. Afterwards, you pass through several beautiful heath villages. Between Siecke and Becklingen are megalithic tombs dating back approximately to 4200-2800 BC. In Siecke and Aljarn, you will see typical farmhouses and farmsteads. Continuing through Eddelstorf, where there is a wetland habitat by the meadows, you head towards Altenmedingen. There stands a church from the 13th century, a stopover for the Medingen monastery before its establishment in 1336 in present-day Medingen. Noteworthy: the "row altar" from around 1480. Open upon request, Tel. 05823-1732.
The last stop before reaching the destination of Bad Bevensen is Secklendorf. Here you can play a round of golf on the natural golf course (reservation Tel. 05821-98250). Secklendorf is also a legendary place: In the valley "Lange Grund" there was once a boulder with which the devil wanted to smash the monastery in Medingen.
With this story in mind, you reach Bad Bevensen, where you can relax in the iodine-saline spa or take a leisurely stroll through the city.
Route information: mostly low-traffic, paved roads, mostly with separate bike paths. Between Westersunderberg and Höver, there is a short dirt road with moderate rideability. Parts with approximately 3-4% incline/decline.
