Schwaney, situated in a picturesque location on the old Hellweg in the source area of the River Eller, can look back on a history of over 1,000 years. Nestled in an idyllic mountain basin, the village is located away from traffic, close to the European long-distance hiking trail E 1 and Eggeweg.
In time for the German Hiking Day 2015, the members of the Schwaney Eggegebirgsverein in cooperation with the municipal administration of Altenbeken designated a new circular hiking trail. The challenging half-day hike takes you around Schwaney for 13.5 km. Along the way, you will be offered wide views of Schwaney, the Egge Mountains, and the Eller Valley. The trail is continuously paved except for two short sections, making it suitable for cycling as well.
