Recipient's path (unmarked route)

For hikers who prefer to be out in the untouched nature, the circular hike Antfänger's Path is just right. The approximately ten-kilometer long route starts in the historic city center and initially runs along the Johannes Path, where seven wayside shrines are set up depicting the life and death of St. John of Nepomuk. The Johannes Path leads to the Johannes Chapel and the statue of John of Nepomuk, from which you can now hike along the river Ems, past the nature reserve "Rietberger Fish Ponds" and through the internationally important nature reserve "Rietberger Ems Lowlands". The nature reserves are home to a variety of rare bird and plant species, so you may be able to make some great observations with a bit of luck. A pair of binoculars is therefore recommended. Another highlight along the way is Antfänger's Mill, dating back to 1750 and considered the youngest of the Rietberger Ems mills. By the way: The name "Antfänger" means "duck catcher" and indicates that wild duck trapping used to take place here.

The scenic and idyllic circular path is very attractive in every season and can be completed with or without a guide. The opportunity to "enjoy" is created by the numerous natural and cultural highlights as well as by special dining options along Rathausstraße.
