Espelkamp - Three Lakes Tour

Starting at Wilhelm-Kern-Platz, the circular route initially heads west, passing Boros Park and then through the historically significant grounds of Ludwig-Steil-Hof, a nucleus of the city of Espelkamp and an important social institution. Then a short stretch through the Nord industrial area.
The first lake on the route is Gabelweiher. It not only serves as a place of recreation for the residents of this district, but also functions as a rainwater retention basin for the entire district. Well-kept green areas, a water fountain, and numerous water birds create a relaxed atmosphere. On the way to the recreational area Große Aue, you first pass through the Westend residential area and then a forested area.
The second lake is the Kleihügel See, artificially created and designed as a bathing lake. Here, you have the opportunity to sunbathe on the hills, swim in the water, or paddle in a rowboat. It is an ideal place for a picnic and serves as an attractive destination for the whole family.
After a short drive, you reach the last lake, Aue See. It is also artificially created and located in a nature reserve with an extensive forested area. Unlike the bathing lake, it is not open to the public but exclusively reserved for water birds, fish, and frogs. A high viewpoint offers a magnificent view of the lake.
The route continues on quiet side roads past fields and meadows until reaching the new building area "Zur Ratzenburg," then returning to the city center starting point on cycle paths. Here, there are numerous dining options to refuel and conclude the journey.
