Mühlacker in the Enzkreis district is surrounded by the cultural landscape of Stromberg and Kraichgau. A gravel tour through picturesque meadow valleys and half-timbered villages awaits you here, starting at the well-connected Mühlacker train station. Highlights include the villages of Schmie, Lienzingen and Illingen with their historic half-timbered houses.
In the south of the land of 1,000 hills lies the largest town in the Enzkreis district, Mühlacker - but it is actually quite tranquil here. Mühlacker is nestled in the beautiful cultural landscape of Stromberg and Kraichgau and lies directly on the banks of the River Enz, where the "Enzgärten 2015" horticultural show takes place. The ruins of Löffelstelz Castle are enthroned high above the town walls, from where you can enjoy a fantastic view over the picturesque Enz valley. In short: Mühlacker is a great starting point for this short gravel tour, which takes you through idyllic meadow valleys and dreamy half-timbered villages.
You start at the train station in Mühlacker. This is super practical, as it is well connected to the rail network. For example, you can travel from Pforzheim in less than a quarter of an hour - without a car. So you can start from here. Via a mix of quiet side roads and wide gravel paths, you soon reach the first cultural highlight of the tour, the small village of Schmie, which invites you to take your first break with its beautiful half-timbered houses. After that, it gets quiet again and you immerse yourself in the picturesque natural park landscape, which has its charm at any time of year.In Lienzingen, the route takes another bend towards the town center. You'll feel like you're in the Middle Ages here! Narrow alleyways, ancient half-timbered houses and the church in the middle - you can relax here for a while and treat yourself to a coffee or snack. Afterwards, the Lienzinger Tal valley along the Schmiebach stream is very tranquil again.
As all good things come in threes, another cultural highlight with beautiful half-timbered houses and good cafés awaits you: Illingen is the third place on this tour where it is definitely worth taking a break. From here, it's not far to the starting point of the tour. In Mühlacker, you can end the tour in the Enzgärten on the banks of the River Enz.
