The hiking trail starts at the Schöllerhof hiking car park, follows the Schwarzpulverroute, and ends at the former conference hotel Maria in der Aue. Sights along the way include, for example, the ruins of powder mills, weirs and upper ditches, the half-timbered house of the gunpowder manufacturer, and the baroque Haniel Castle.
