The mountain begins quite leisurely at the junction of the branch line to Winterberg in Schmallenberg-Oberkirchen. There are many nice opportunities here to replenish energy reserves before the climb. The route initially follows the young Lenne river upstream.
After the small village of Inderlenne, continue on this road. There is also the option here to cycle to Winterberg via Nordenau. However, there is generally more traffic here and people drive much faster. Continuing upstream along the Lenne, you reach the chic village of Westfeld. In winter, there is a cross-country skiing center here. Here we leave the Lenne and the mountain truly begins.
Via Ohlenbach, the narrow road winds further uphill until just below the Kahlen Astens on the ski slope "Sahnehang". Turn right here and after 200 meters turn right again, following the signs to the Kahlen Asten. After about 1 kilometer, the summit and thus the highest point in North Rhine-Westphalia reachable by road bike is reached.
