You start the circular hike at Kloster Grafschaft, the nucleus of the city of Schmallenberg. Originally, Kloster Grafschaft was a Benedictine monastery until secularization. After the Second World War, Kloster Grafschaft became the mother house of the Borromean Sisters. The order operates the pulmonary clinic Kloster Grafschaft.
From Kloster Grafschaft, you hike through Grafschaft on the Golddörfer-Route and then up to the Wilzenberg (658m). On the Wilzenberg, the Wilzenberg Chapel, built in the 16th century, invites you to linger. Just a short distance away, the nearly ten-meter-high Kaiser Wilhelm Tower (Wilzenberg Tower) offers a beautiful view over the High Sauerland. Then you go back down into the valley of Grafschaft, a 6km long tributary of the Lenne.
