Arrival/Departure:Train: from Berlin with RE3 (Schwedt) to Bernau near Berlin (approx. 15 minutes).Car: from Berlin via B2 to Bernau near Berlin (approx. 45 minutes).Directions: The starting point is at the train station, to the right of it are the 1906 post office building and the 1908 consecrated Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart with a barrier-free side entrance. The city stroll continues along Breitscheidstraße to Alte Goethestraße and behind the small Goethepark to the right on Stadtmauerweg to Steintor. Steintor with Hungerturm is the last of three city gates. The city wall is still almost completely preserved. Stadtmauerweg can be easily used by wheelchair users. Since 1882, Steintor has been a local history museum (not suitable for people with walking disabilities or wheelchair users). On Berliner Straße, there are restored new buildings from the 1980s and historical buildings. Several restaurants and cafes are accessible and some also have barrier-free toilets. In the city center, shops invite you to stroll, some are accessible and marked with the city's logo "Bernau near Berlin barrier-free". From Berliner Straße, turn right into Bürgermeisterstraße and after a few meters, you will find the barrier-free Tourist Information. Here, there is a city map for people with and without disabilities, a hearing loop, and the possibility to borrow audio sets for the hard of hearing as well as a wheelchair for people with walking disabilities. In the same building, there is the Galerie Bernau. In Brauerstraße opposite the Sparkasse, there is a barrier-free toilet. The most impressive building in the city is the four-aisled brick hall church St. Marien. In St. Marien's Church, there is a hearing loop and ramps for wheelchair users. If you pass the church and turn left before the Mühlentor, you will reach the Henkerhaus Museum. A visit is recommended, but only the "Schwarze Küche" is accessible for wheelchair users. Next stop is the monument to the victims of witch persecution and the barrier-free Wolf-Kahlen Museum. Next to it is the impressive 25-meter-high Pulverturm, the city park, and a little further on, the oldest preserved building - the Kantorhaus. The Stadtmauerweg ends at Berliner Straße - now it is not far to the train station.
