Description by the author

From Einruhr, the circular tour starts westwards into the forest along the Rur or its forebay. After a short time, you will reach the Eifelblick Wolfshügel. This offers a beautiful view of the village of Einruhr and the picturesque Rur reservoir with its densely wooded cliffs. The massive Rur bridge, visible in the foreground, was built in the 19th century and was the first stone bridge to cross the Rur. In good visibility, the view extends to the Düren district to Nideggen-Schmidt, where the tip of the church tower can be seen in the distance.
From now on, you will wander through the wooded slopes of the Rur valley and eventually reach the Langerscheid nature reserve. Here you can discover not only many different animal and plant species but also an original drawing by the painter Paul Siebertz. The famous Eifel painter was here with his students at Püngelbach and had "decorated" a sign in a shelter on a whim.
Shortly afterwards, you will find the forest chapel Erkensruhr along the way. Since the 1980s, people have been coming to the forest chapel above Erkensruhr to pray to the Virgin Mary. The image of Mary is located in a tree trunk. Numerous plaques of thanks, rosaries, and burning candles inside the chapel testify to the religious retreat. From the chapel, you have a great view of the Erkensruhr valley. Then, walking along the valley, you return to the starting point in Einruhr.
