Urexweiler Rundwanderweg

The Urexweiler circular hiking trail starts in the middle of Urexweiler, in the

Recreational area "Im Brühl". In addition to a natural grass pitch, tennis courts and a medical center, there is also a small indoor swimming pool. After a distance of just under 3 km, which after leaving the village mainly leads along extensive meadows and forests with a wide panoramic view, the hiker reaches the highest point of this short and attractive circular hiking trail at 415 meters in altitude. At the same time, you come across the historic "Roman Road", which was built by the Romans as a link between Strasbourg and Trier and was one of the most important transport routes for centuries. On this ridge, which is also the watershed between the Bliestal and Illtal valleys, hikers can enjoy a magnificent view over the "heart" of the Saarland, stretching for many kilometers to the west and especially to the south. After a few hundred meters, the trail leaves the "Roman road" but continues along the ridge. The scenery is now dominated by several kilometers of varied forest and winding, partly natural paths until the route - near the Habenichts district of Urexweiler and just under 500 m from a Celtic burial mound - leads back to the "Römerstraße". The final phase of the hike is similar to the first section of the route: a varied field and meadow landscape once again characterizes the picture.
