Description

The ten-kilometer-long Zeitzgrund circular trail connects various regional experience and viewpoint points as well as the four mills of the pristine Zeitzgrund between Hermsdorf and Stadtroda. With its untouched flora and fauna in the midst of the narrow valley, Zeitzgrund appears a bit wilder than the nearby Eisenberger Mühltal. Due to its many rare mosses, ferns, and the originally appearing mixed forests of Douglas firs and beech trees, Zeitzgrund is a designated landscape protection area. The mills of Zeitzgrund can be traced back to the 14th century and today welcome their guests as cozy restaurants, guesthouses, or equestrian farms.

Route description

You start your tour at the forest parking lot at the historic Pechofen. From here, you hike down the cool Läusegrund towards the idyllic Bockteiche. Now, always along the Zeitzbach, you hike parallel to the Thuringian Städtekette cycle path, passing by the historic mills of Zeitzgrund. Via Bockmühle, Ziegenmühle, Janismühle, and Papiermühle, you finally reach the quiet Rabsgrund.

You follow the path uphill to Raubberg and come across the remains of the former large and small Rabsburg. Shortly afterward, the path leads you downhill into the primeval Falkental and eventually reaches the shelter at the Hubertusquelle, which invites you to refresh and linger. Then you hike along the Zeitzbach wall around Mittelberg and reach Köhlersberg. After a short detour into Läusegrund, you reach the Pechofen after 10 kilometers, the starting point of your tour.

Note: During your circular hike, you will be guided by the various trail markings of local and cross-border hiking trails (marking symbol of the Zeitzgrundweg: green "ZG").

Directions

From Berlin or Munich:

Autobahn A9 to exit No. 23 "Bad Klosterlausnitz".

From there, take the L1075 country road towards Jena/Schöngleina.

After 2.9 kilometers, turn left towards "Pechofen".

Park your car at the forest parking lot at Pechofen.

 

From Frankfurt am Main or Dresden:

Autobahn A4 to Autobahnkreuz Hermsdorf.

Then on Autobahn A9 towards Berlin.

Autobahn A9 to exit No. 23 "Bad Klosterlausnitz".

From there, take the L1075 country road towards Jena/Schöngleina.

After 2.9 kilometers, turn left towards "Pechofen".

Park your car at the forest parking lot at Pechofen.
