Bruchmühlen is the easternmost of a total of 8 districts of the city of Melle. The highest elevation in the district of Melle-Bruchmühlen is the Düingberg with 131 m.
Bruchmühlen got its name from the former estate Bruchmühlen, besides the buildings located on an island formed by the watercourse "Else", a grain and sawmill as well as many farmlands. The former manor was auctioned off in 1865. At the beginning of this century, Müller Baumhöfner bought the estate. A gatehouse originally belonging to the estate and under monument protection was demolished in 1990. In its place, a gatehouse was built, which looks very similar to the old one externally and offers space for celebrations for clubs and private individuals with a hall on the upper floor and two youth rooms on the ground floor. The multipurpose hall is connected to this gatehouse via an intermediate tract.

Riemsloh
The origin of the name Riemsloh can be derived from "rimi-loh", a grove dedicated to the gods. Other interpretations like "rima" meaning edge, boundary, etc. are not excluded.
In the course of the Christianization, the Franks established the manor in Riemsloh on the "via-regia" (king's road between Herford and Osnabrück) in the 9th century to protect the settlements partially laid out in a cluster (Drubbel). The private church belonging to the manor was elevated to a parish church in 1090. There is no evidence of an earlier existence. Every year on the Tuesday after Dionysius (Oct. 9th), the farmers who were subject to a landlord (chapter of Osnabrück) gathered at the manor (Redemeier) for the so-called Riemsloher House Community. Around 1222, a private church of the manor in Hoyel was built on the height of Hagil, present-day Hoyel.
In 1853, the Vogtei became the joint municipality Riemsloh-Hoyel, consisting of the villages Bennien, Döhren, Groß Aschen, Hoyel, Krukum, Westendorf, and Westhoyel.
After the first territorial reform in 1970, the new joint municipality Riemsloh was established, which was replaced in 1972 by the district of Riemsloh (excluding Bennien).
