Otter Path Wahrenholz Nord

Always on the trail of the Eurasian otter, this otter trail leads from Wahrenholz to the north. The trail and the stations along the way provide insights into the danger zones for the otter and offer many opportunities to experience nature, for example, by exploring a stream barefoot. The Elbe-Seitenkanal and the historic water mill in Wahrenholz are also visited. In total, four otter trails invite you to experience the landscape from the perspective of an otter. The Eurasian otter is a very rare and secretive animal. It reacts very sensitively to changes in its habitat. In other words, when streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes are in a good ecological state, they will sooner or later be inhabited by the otter as a habitat. Thanks to extensive nature conservation measures, the Eurasian otter has returned to the lowlands of the River Ise, a small river in the district of Gifhorn. Even near the Otter Center in Hankensbüttel, wild otters and their traces have been seen. The otter trails lead to these areas to sharpen the view of the otter's habitats. In total, 24 stations equipped with steel otters invite you to learn about the life of the otter and nature conservation on-site.
