Description by the author

The European long-distance hiking trail E8 runs from the North Sea via the Rhine, Main and Danube to the Carpathians in its section through the Bavarian Forest from Regensburg along the "Danube ridge" via numerous panoramic mountains (Pilgramsberg, Hirschenstein, Rusel, Brotjacklriegel) and beautiful landscapes (Oberbreitenauer Hochfläche, Lallinger Winkel, Zentinger Becken) to Saldenburg. There it enters the wild and romantic Ilz Valley, which it follows to Passau. From the town of Ilz, the hike then continues through the charming hilly country north of the Danube via the Kappel/Oberkappel border crossing to Upper Austria.
