Nordic Walking Rund um den Gibacht, DSV-zertifiziert

For many summer and winter sports enthusiasts, Berghaus Gibacht is the starting point for both easy and difficult tours. The medium-difficulty Nordic walking tour "Around the Gibacht" starts here. Walkers take the first few meters on the left uphill to the cross-country skiers' starting hut. From there, the route leads along the forest path until the path branches off towards Kreuzfelsen. The route continues along small paths to the Kreuzfelsen. At 938 m above sea level, it is the highest elevation in the German part of the Upper Palatinate Forest. There is a striking rock formation on its summit and a large summit cross with a figure of Christ on it. The route continues downhill towards the Dreiwappen border crossing. Here, at the border, there is a shelter on the Drei-Wappen rock (901 m). The coats of arms of the Electorate of Bavaria (CB), the Kingdom of Bohemia (KB) and the Duchy of Palatinate (HP) with the year 1766 are carved into the rock from the left, commemorating the demarcation of the border between Bavaria and Bohemia at that time. The basis for this was the border treaty of March 3, 1764, with which the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa (who was also Queen of Bohemia at the time and acted as such) and the Bavarian Elector Max III Joseph put a bloodless end to the centuries-long dispute over the exact course of the border. The route continues downhill and uphill along forest paths to the glass cross. In view of the long glass tradition on the mountain slopes of Gibacht and Cerchov, the first glass summit cross in the Bavarian Forest was erected here on April 2, 2005 as a joint project by the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wanderwege Furth im Wald" and the "Klub Tschechischer Touristen, Sektion Domažlice/Taus". The cross has since become a magnet for hiking tourists from Bavaria and the Czech Republic. The route continues downhill along forest paths to the starting point at Berghaus Gibacht, where you can round off the beautiful tour with a hearty snack.
