Description by the author

The Franconian Road of Sculptures is an easy circular hiking trail through the Ellertal valley in Franconian Tuscany. Around Lohndorf, you don't have to go to a museum to admire sculptures.

The "Franconian Road of Sculptures" shows works of figurative and abstract art in nature. The trail was established in 1994 on the initiative of Lohndorf artist Ad Freundorfer, whose sculpture "Virtual Space" can be seen here, and has been successively expanded.

From Litzendorf, we follow the "blue diagonal line" sign and start at the tourist information office (Am Wehr 3). We cross the main road / Geisfelder Straße and follow the main road, turn right into Lohndorfer Weg, turn immediately right into "Obere Dorf" and then turn left opposite house number 12 onto the corridor path to Lohndorf. At the next fork in the road, we keep left and then straight on past the Marienkapelle chapel until shortly before Lohndorf (hiking parking lot with "Kunst- und Besinnungsweg"). Here we can follow the Franconian Road of Sculptures either to the left or to the right - we recommend turning left to follow the path clockwise to Tiefenellern.

To do this, we walk towards the main road and follow the signs approx. 200m to the left. Cross the main road and turn right onto the paved path. Continue uphill and downhill to Lohndorf. At the hikers' parking lot in Lohndorf, continue straight ahead and take the lower path above the soccer field. The route then climbs slightly along the paved path until shortly before Tiefenellern. At the small bridge before entering the village, we cross the main road and walk back along the new cycle path to Lohndorf. If you would like to stop for a bite to eat in Tiefenellern, you can take a detour into the village to the Hönig brewery (approx. 200 m).

Shortly before Lohndorf, we come across the impressive sculpture "Der Sieger" and walk past a small parking lot. At the entrance to the village, the path leads left uphill for around 200 meters, then right on the hill to a small house (detour to Lohndorf to the church worth seeing over the "Kirchberg" is possible), shortly afterwards left again uphill along a row of trees to a fork in the path.

Keep right here, the path winds parallel to the hill to a T-junction opposite a field barn. First turn right, then left after a few meters. Leave this path after around 500 meters. The tour now leads to the right along the path downhill towards the state road (hikers' parking lot near Lohndorf). From here, turn left again and follow the same path back to Litzendorf.
