Winterwanderung - Große Frechensee-Runde

The long loop around Lake Frechensee starts at the train station in Seeshaupt. A short stretch takes you along the railroad tracks through the town before you soon leave civilization almost completely behind you. Quiet forest paths now lead slightly undulating in a southerly direction. On the section along the Frechensee, walkers repeatedly catch wonderful views of the picturesque lake through the trees. The southernmost point of the route is finally reached at the edge of the forest near the hamlet of Ellmann. From here, the route heads north on wide gravel paths through the shady forest and finally along the road back to Seeshaupt.

Author's tip: A detour to the more accessible western shore of Lake Frechensee is worthwhile!

Safety information: The path is not cleared in winter, but is still easy to walk.

Way description: Alternative route description: From the hiking parking lot on the southern edge of the groundwater lake, follow the Unterer Flurweg, which turns into a gravel forest road. After about 500 m, follow the path in the forest to the left. It runs over gentle undulations through a beautiful mixed forest with impressive dead ice holes of various sizes. Shortly afterwards, you reach the eastern shore of the idyllic Frechensee lake. After a short distance, you leave the lake behind you and follow the forest path towards Lauterbach. Turn west onto the wide path, a chestnut avenue in the direction of Ellmann and then follow the road to Seeshaupt, which winds gently past the school forest to Hohenberger Straße, which leads past Ullrichsau back to the parking lot.
