Four climbs in the Central Black Forest

This route links together four scenically beautiful climbs in the Central Black Forest. None of these four climbs is particularly hard (the climb to Zollhaus has the highest score with 396 climb effort points)). However, the extremely steep sections encountered on the climb to Wolfsbühl (the steepest 250-metre section averages 17%) and on the climb to Zollhaus (the steepest 250-metre section averages 18%) will certainly test your legs. Such steep ramps are typical of the Black Forest. The route is very cyclist-friendly. It largely follows well-paved, narrow roads with hardly any motorised traffic. The ride takes cyclists through two towns with attractive historic centres, Wolfach and Schiltach, well worth a stop to soak up some local culture and enjoy Kaffee und Kuchen or something else on a café terrace.

During the ride you tackle the following climbs: Moosenmättle-west, Wolfsbühl, Zollhaus-southwest and St. Romaner Höhe-south.

The route can also be ridden in the opposite direction. In that case, the first two climbs (St. Romaner Höhe-southwest and Zollhaus-west—the latter including a section of cobblestones) are about as difficult as their counterparts from the opposite side. The other two climbs are easier.
