Hard climbing tour in the Central Black Forest

This route links together five scenically beautiful climbs in the central part of the Black Forest and presents a significant challenge. No fewer than 2,320 altitude meters must be conquered within a distance of 74 kilometers. Of the five climbs, Wolfsbühl is the easiest (271 climb effort points, or cep) and the Moosenberg the toughest (501 cep). Three of the five climbs feature extremely steep sections: Moosenberg (steepest section of 250 meters has a gradient of 17%), Wolfsbühl (17%) and Zollhaus-southwest (18%). Such steep passages are typical of the Black Forest. The route is very cyclist-friendly. The vast majority runs along well-paved, narrow roads with hardly any motorized traffic. The ride takes the cyclist through two places with beautiful historic centers, Wolfach and Schiltach, nice for soaking up some culture and enjoying coffee and cake or something else on a terrace.

During the tour you will conquer the following climbs: Moosenberg, Windkapf-northwest, Wolfsbühl, Zollhaus-southwest and St. Romaner Höhe-south.

The tour can also be ridden in the reverse direction. In that case, the first two climbs (St. Romaner Höhe southwest and Zollhaus west – the latter featuring a stretch of cobblestones) are about as difficult as their versions from the other side. The next two climbs are easier than their counterparts. The final one, the Schondelhöhe, is again about as difficult as the climb from the other side (Moosenberg) and has a very tricky middle section with a steepest kilometer of 15.9%.
