Kongens Nytorv (English: King's New Square) is a square located in the center of Copenhagen, Denmark. The square is situated between the main shopping street Strøget and the Nyhavn canal (English: New Harbour), one of the most picturesque places in Copenhagen.
The square was created by King Christian V in 1670 and is adorned in its center by an equestrian statue of the same king dressed as an emperor, a work by the sculptor Abraham César Lamoureux.
Many official buildings surround this square, including the Royal Theatre, the Charlottenborg Palace (now the seat of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts), the French Embassy, the Hotel d'Angleterre, and the department store Magasin du Nord.
