A valley shaped by the ice age
The Ådal is a tunnel valley that was formed by massive amounts of water during the melting of the ice more than 15,000 years ago. The meltwater dug deep into the landscape and created the characteristic valley that we see today. The valley is a clear trace of the ice age's forces in the area.
A clean river with life
Today, the Ejby River flows through the valley. The river has such clean water quality that trout thrive here and can spawn in the clear stream. This makes the river an important habitat for local wildlife.
Traces from a distant past
On the slopes of the valley facing Isefjord, exciting finds have been made. Here, formed stones have been found that may date back to the interglacial period around 250,000 years ago. These finds provide a rare insight into the area's geological history.
The Troll Woman Stone
On the northern slope, one can see the so-called Troll Woman Stone. According to an old legend, the stone was thrown toward Kirke Hyllinge Church by an angry troll woman. However, the stone never reached its target and today lies as a visible reminder of the tale.
The Ejby Murder in 1842
The valley has also been the scene of more grim events. At the bridge that leads to Ejby, the first part of the infamous Ejby Murder took place in 1842. The murder attracted great attention and is still remembered as one of the area's most chilling incidents.
