The castle at Jungshoved is situated in a highly strategic location. The site is mentioned for the first time along with the associated church in King Valdemar's Land Register in 1231, which is a record of all the king's possessions and properties. However, the castle surely has roots dating back in time and is presumed to have been founded around 100 years earlier, when especially the Wends from the German Baltic area plundered and ravaged the southern coasts of Denmark.
