The Stege town rampart is Denmark's best-preserved urban fortification. The approximately 800 m long town rampart and ditch protected the medieval market town of Stege in an arc from Stege Nor to Stege Bugt and Ulvsund. It was not until the 19th century that the town began to expand beyond the ramparts.
