Cycling: The Rudkøbing Route

The route begins at Rudkøbing Harbor, where you can experience the authentic harbor atmosphere. The route goes through the town, where you pass a statue of the local hero H.C. Ørsted (1777 – 1851), who, in addition to discovering electromagnetism, also figured out how to extract aluminum and invented more than 2000 new Danish words, including oxygen, authority, and frictional resistance.

From Rudkøbing, you quickly reach the countryside and cycle through the beautiful Faarevejle Allé until you arrive at the impressive Faarevejle Manor. From here, the route heads east along small roads, which turn into gravel roads just before you reach Spodsbjerg.

Ferry connections from Spodsbjerg to Lolland have existed since the 1500s. Today, the route goes to Tårs instead of Nakskov. Spodsbjerg also has a traditional beach hotel, and at the harbor, you can buy freshly caught fish directly from the fishing boats between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

On the way back to Rudkøbing, you pass through one of Langeland's 15 villages, Simmerbølle (a village means "to live" or "town"). Just before you return to Rudkøbing lies Strandlyst Fruit Farm, which sells juice and fruit from its own production and is definitely worth a visit.
