The Commander and the Kaskelot

Ride on a cycling adventure to a string of Rømø's many experiences along the two semicircles of the route.

The Commander
The northernmost semicircle can start at the Nature Center Tønnisgård, where tours are arranged with both cultural-historical and natural characteristics.

On the semicircle, you will also pass closely by one of Rømø's three 'mountains', Høstbjerg, which towers a full 19 meters over the dune landscape. It is ample height to get a beautiful view of all sides of the island. If you want to visit the beautiful old Kommandørgården, which today belongs to the National Museum, you just need to take a detour towards Juvre of 500 meters.

The holiday area Lakolk offers both shops and restaurants, and of course, you cannot be there without taking a quick trip down to Lakolk Beach. On the way back, you drive along Småfolksvej, whose special name refers to the fact that it was here the island's small people – the poorest, who cut turf for firewood – lived.

On the route's second semicircle, on the southern part of Rømø, you pass yet another climb, namely Spidsbjerg, which rises upward and provides a beautiful view over the dune landscape. You also encounter Denmark's widest beach, Rømø Sydstrand, which in itself is worth a day trip. In addition to the many natural experiences of the beach, there awaits a small optical illusion when you observe the Rømø-Sild ferry, which appears to sail on the beach.

From Sydstranden it is not far back to Havneby, from where the ferry to Sild departs.
