Cycling: The God Route

During the construction of a sewage pipeline in 1986 north of Lundeborg Harbor, they dug directly into what would turn out to be Denmark's oldest trading place – with its heyday from the year 300 to 900 AD. The trading place saw a rich exchange of goods from the Roman Empire and even from the Black Sea region. Not far from there, the Broholm treasure was found during plowing in 1833; it is a gold treasure weighing 4.5 kilograms from the same period.

In Gudbjerg, the historical ties are traced even further back in time when you visit Gudbjerg Mindelund. Here you will find four impressive long barrows and some memorial stones of more recent date.

Gudme is today best known for handball, and it was also the construction of a new sports hall that led to the discovery of some historical hall buildings from the 3rd century AD. The largest of the Gudme Prince's halls was 47 meters long and 10 meters wide, quite impressive. You can see the site next to the sports hall in Gudme.

On the way back, the route passes by the small romantic castle Hessellagergård, which was built between 1538 and 1550 and is still privately owned.
