The Værnengene is a larger protected area with public access all year round. Here, there is a multitude of different birds such as lapwings, spoonbills, oystercatchers, curlews, copper snipes, swans, and redshanks. Therefore, it is important to remember binoculars and a bird book when you visit the area. In Værnengene, there is a barn with information and a view over the area and the birds. A short distance away, there is a lookout tower overlooking the entire area and the fjord.
