Description by the author

The View Route is 35 km long and is intended as a cycling route through the landscape on the western side of the Jutland ridge west of Vejle. The route is located in Vejle Vesteregn and connects the area's villages. The route consists of asphalt road (25 km) and good gravel road (10 km).

Along the way, a number of marked viewpoints and many other attractions are passed. In several places, it is also possible, within a short distance, to visit sites of historical, cultural, and natural significance.

The rest area "The Green Area" at Karlskov – the starting point!

Here we are at an altitude of about 70 m, which is many meters lower than the viewpoints up on the edge of the ridge. It is clearly seen that we are out on the meltwater plain to the west and north.

The area with a kindergarten, free school, and community house as well as "The Green Area" is a lovely recreational area, where it is nice to have lunch or otherwise relax a bit in connection with the trip around the route. In the area where Høgelundvej meets Billundvej, there are several Bronze Age burial mounds – in one of these, the Høgelund sword was found around 1912.

The rest area at Ringive

We are here at an altitude of about 60 m, about 3 m above the Omme River, which is one of the most important tributaries to the Skjern River and Ringkøbing Fjord. When the water level is high, the water spreads out over the low meadows in the area. At the edge of the river valley, about 600 m west of Billundvej, there is a 6 m high tower from which there is a fantastic view of the area. The path to it is marked with a sign: "Viewpoint". The View Route does not pass by the tower, and you have to return to Billundvej to continue the route.

The viewpoint at Åst

Here there are picnic tables, and we are at an altitude of about 112 m with a good view to the west and south. To the west towards Billund, where especially Billund Airport leaves its mark on the landscape. Both to the west and south we see over what is called the heath plain, which is the meltwater plain where sand from the ice in the last Ice Age was left behind. This created poor soil on which the heath spread. Today there are large cultivated areas and some areas with plantations. Behind the farm buildings at Åstvej 8, about 350 m to the south, there is access to the Åst (Amlund) Church ruin, beautifully located on a small hill.

The viewpoint on Fortvej in Lindeballe

Here there are picnic tables, and we are at an altitude of about 127 m with a good view to the north towards Give, where the heating plant's accumulator tank is a prominent feature in the landscape. We are only a few hundred meters from Møllebjerg, which is the area's highest point at 137 m. At Møllebjerg, which has been a node for triangulation since the first measurements of Denmark, there is today a military facility with a tower with a strong flashing light for aviation safety. A detour from the route – about 700 m north along Åstvej from where it meets Fortvej – allows for a visit to Lindeballe with its church and brickworks, as well as a memorial stone for Balling and Rasmus Mortensen.
