Cycling: Lyø

By closely studying the ferry schedule, you can visit both Avernakø and Lyø on the same day; note which island is visited first, as it changes throughout the day.

After a beautiful ferry ride, you arrive at Lyø. From the ferry harbor, a short walk will take you directly to the village of Lyø, where you will find the island's shop. The village is a well-preserved church village with white half-timbered houses that have a characteristic blue line around the black timber framing. Take a stroll into the cemetery, which is circular and is said to be one of the country’s most beautiful.

From Lyø village, you can bike northwest to the bird reserve "Revet," where you can observe the birdlife from the birdwatching tower. Avoid entering the area so as not to disturb the wildlife. Continue your tour west, past Lyø Mølle, which stands tall on the island, and follow the road, which ends at "Klokkestenen," a burial chamber over 5,000 years old, where the capstone can produce a sound like a bell when struck. The round trip to the eastern end of the island features salt meadows and some gravel road cycling.
