Hvidsten Group (63 km)

The Hvidsten Group was a reception group associated with the Danish resistance movement during the German occupation of Denmark from 1940 to 1945. The group emerged around innkeeper Marius Fiil from Hvidsten Inn, and its task was to receive explosives, ammunition, and weapons that were dropped from English planes for the use of the Danish resistance groups. The first drop, which was collected by Marius Fiil and his group, took place on the night between March 11 and 12, 1943. The group continued to receive drops until most of its members were arrested by the Gestapo on March 11, 1944. The German military court sentenced eight of them to death, and they were executed by shooting on June 29, 1944. Among the executed were the innkeeper, his son, and son-in-law. The trip passes by some of the locations associated with the Hvidsten Group's efforts during World War II.
