The salamander route goes through Musicon - Roskilde's musical and creative district - continuing through Hedeland - a large public recreational area in a transformed gravel pit landscape. In Musicon, you can experience cafes, a microbrewery, and a Rock Museum. The route continues through Hedeland with several recreational facilities such as a vintage train track and large playgrounds. In Hedeland, great water salamanders live in and around the area's ponds. At several points along the route, there are views of Roskilde's architect-designed "Waste Cathedral," where the city's waste is transformed into district heating.
