The trip starts at the old city hall at the town square and leads via Østergade and Gudenåen to Ansvej, where Trækstien begins. Trækstien was formerly used for barge sailing between Silkeborg and Randers.

Resenbro is located on the old railway line Laurbjerg-Silkeborg via Gjern. The railway line was converted into a bike path after it was closed in 1971. From Resenbro, the Gjern Railway Path is followed back to Silkeborg.
