The Monkey Road

At the end of Boserup Forest, the route continues along Roskilde Fjord and further through Denmark's oldest psychiatric hospital area, Sct. Hans Hospital. The hospital area is situated at a high elevation with a fantastic view over Roskilde Fjord. The older hospital buildings are of high architectural value, and the undeveloped areas are protected to ensure the area's scenic, cultural, and natural values.

The Munkevejen continues through the district of Sct. Jørgensbjerg, which, with its old low half-timbered houses and narrow, steep alleys, gives the district a special atmosphere. The district's church, Sct. Jørgensbjerg Church, was called the Spedils Church - the lepers' church - in the Middle Ages. Small peepholes in the wall into the church space indicated that the place—very unusually—allowed the lepers to participate in the service.

The route continues past the Viking Ship Museum and up through Byparken - the Park is one of the city's green oases and is protected to preserve the view over Roskilde Fjord. Munkevejen ends at Roskilde Cathedral, which is the royal burial church and listed on UNESCO's list of world cultural treasures. The name Roskilde refers to the many springs that can still be seen.
