Jutland's first railway was the stretch between Aarhus and Randers, which opened in 1862. The railway was constructed by the English company Peto, Brassey & Betts, which had already established a factory in Randers in 1861 to build railway carriages. The factory's director, William Robert Rowan, had the idea to also construct a railway from Randers to Hadsund, which opened in 1883. It had its own railway station on Fischersgade until the line was closed in 1969. The 10 km railway stretch starting at Dronningborghallen and leading through a scenic area over Lem to Spentrup is now a cycling and walking path, which is what you follow on this trip. From Spentrup, the journey returns to Randers via Bjergby and Borup.
