The city of Randers was founded at the place where it was easiest to cross the Gudenå River when traveling from north to south through Jutland – or vice versa. The name Randers also means "the town on the hill by the river mouth," and here a small trading place emerged during the Viking Age. Ever since, the city has sustained itself through trade, thanks to the fertile surrounding area and the good transport options by land and water. On this trip, there are good opportunities to explore the city's surroundings, first north and then south of the city.
