Just west of Kastbjerg, the river turns north towards its outlet in Mariager Fjord. The Kastbjergruten thus runs across the meadows east of the river over drainage ditches that supply water to the river. To the north, the route connects to the Nordsøstien, which follows the former railway track where the train ran between Hadsund and Randers. Near Havndal, the route passes by the main estate Trudsholm. On the return journey to Kastbjerg, the route runs along the asphalt roads. The paths can be muddy, so walking or rubber boots are recommended. As the only route in the Kastbjerg Ådal, horseback riding is permitted, but riders must keep to the west side of the route over the river to accommodate walkers.
