Himmerigskoven

Close to Hinnerup, Trige, and Grundfør, you will find this young forest (the first trees were planted in 1991) - recently, planting has also taken place at the western end towards Hinnerup, primarily for the purpose of groundwater protection. The forest is named after Himmeriggården, which is centrally located in the forest. The majority consists of deciduous forest (oak and beech), but there are also several open areas. In the damp places, red alder and ash are planted, and scattered throughout the forest are many fruit trees for the enjoyment of forest visitors and the forest's animals. Coniferous trees can also be found in the forest, providing diversity as well as shelter for birds and other animals in winter when the deciduous trees stand bare. In the forest edges, there are bushes and small trees such as blackthorn, hazel, and wild cherry, which create a nice transition to the open land - while these outermost trees protect the trees behind them from wind and drying out. Himmerigskoven is contiguous with Bærmoseskov, which is located in Aarhus Municipality and thus east of the motorway - both forest areas are owned by the State (The Nature Agency).
