Description by the author

Gulddysse Forest is a young forest. Over 80 percent consists of broadleaf trees – primarily beech and oak, but also ash, elm, birch, cherry, hornbeam, lime, and alder. Ten percent are coniferous trees – mostly Norway spruce and Douglas fir. The rest are shrubs. Along the route, in July, you can experience a number of orchids of the species wood louse, which is common in clearings and along paths in forests.

Despite the fact that the forest is young, there is a large and healthy population of roe deer in the forest. They can be difficult to spot in the dense young forest, but if you look closely, you can see their paths or tracks, as they are called.

You have the best chance of spotting a roe deer at dawn or dusk along one of the many inner or outer forest edges. In winter, roe deer move in groups – that is, in larger herds – making them easier to spot.

Foxes and Badgers

There are many foxes in Gulddysse Forest, and badgers have been seen in the forest, but it is still unknown where the set is. The badger is a very social animal. They live together in clans and are easiest to spot at sunrise or late in the evening, as they are nocturnal.

You will definitely also see squirrels on your walk through the forest. At least in the autumn when they are hunting for nuts in the hazel bushes, of which many have been planted in the forest edges.
