Store Økssø trail

The tour around St. Økssø is a Rold Skov classic, especially in autumn with colors from the various tree species. Here you will find runners, riders, cyclists, bathers, hikers, and picnic lovers. The route can be extended to double the length with a trip to Røverstuen.

St. Økssø is naturally a brown-water lake. The color is not due to pollution, but to dissolved humus substances washed out from the surrounding peat areas. The water is very clean, and the lake is also used extensively as a bathing lake in the summer and as a winter bathing spot in the winter.

There is also a bathing cabin/sauna, managed by the association "Søens Folk." Fishing is permitted, and there are opportunities to catch perch. Here you can get very close to the water.

The trip around the lake is 3 km, and there are benches along the route, as well as a wheelchair-accessible fishing platform.

At Mosskov Pavilion, close to the lake, there is parking and a disabled toilet, and under the railway, a wheelchair-friendly pedestrian tunnel has been established providing easy access to the lake. The path around the lake is wheelchair-accessible.
