Hellumsporet

The trails at Hellum start at the activity area in the middle of Hellum. You can find the area by turning off the main road (Skørpingvej) at the village pond and driving along Hellum Byvej. From the activity area, the trails are marked. The activity area is Hellum's ancient common land. Here were the town's wells, clay pits for plastering the town's houses, and the malt house, where farmers collectively produced malt (dried, sprouted barley) for the significant home brewing of beer. The red route runs through the sandy hills north of the village, where coniferous plantations dominate the landscape. The route follows the valley with Asp Bæk, which is the only drainage for Madum Sø. At the end of the gravel road Tirsdalsvej, a footpath leads up over a beautiful ridge and continues across the hills out to Bavnehøjvej, which in ancient times served as the region's main road to Aalborg. The last stretch before this path goes through a picturesque tunnel of beech trees.
