Husum Enge Stien

The Husum Enge path leads past the Markmandshuset, which was a summer residence for the markmen who used to tend the grazing cattle and sheep in the area, and continues on to the mills and the associated small museum. The path continues past the Ballum Slusekro, Ballum Sluse, and follows the dyke back to the parking area. Along the way, you can gain insight into life out here as it has looked since the 1100s up to today.

According to old Frisian tradition and to protect against the tide in a time long before there were dykes, people built their houses on the artificially created hills, which in marsh language are called værfter. The Markmandshuset is built on Misthusum's northernmost værft and was in operation until the year 1900.
