Bælum Mill Forest Path

The trail passes through two nature areas that are quite different. One contains a wealth of both natural and cultural history, while the other is a relatively young area, as the path runs around the edge of a reforestation area, primarily planted with oak. If you start your journey at the parking lot in front of Bælum Youth School, the path follows an old road that runs through a beautiful forest area. Just after the start, the path runs parallel to a sunken road that was once the access road from the mill. The area has a past as a grazing heath and heathland. Over the last 50-100 years, the area has gradually been overtaken by forest and thickets, primarily consisting of self-seeded oak. The municipality, which owns Bælum Mill, is trying to keep part of the area free of growth. This offers some nice views of Bælum Mill, which stands proudly on the hill as an icon of the town.
