The villages of Bisholt and Glud are neighboring villages on the southern side of Horsens Fjord. Although the village of Bisholt constituted a single settlement and center in a large landholding, the town is divided into Vester Bisholt under Skjold Parish and Øster Bisholt under Glud Parish. Farms in Bisholt and Glud were leasehold farms under, among others, Boller Estate near Horsens or Jensgård and Palsgaard south of Snaptun. The farms were leased to the farmers, who paid dues to the landowners for cultivating the land. In the 19th century, the leasehold farmers gained the opportunity to purchase their leasehold farms, and ownership was introduced.
